A Typical Lesson

If I were asked, “walk me through a lesson” by a principal during an interview I would start by explaining the content I want to teach. First, I would plan my lesson around the social environment I’m in. I would take in account the different interests and learning styles that my students have. In the lesson itself I would start with an opener to ignite interest in everyone. For example, if I was doing a lesson on comics, I would ask everyone if they’ve read comics or watched superhero movies before and have a mini discussion about it. I would then teach certain technical skills that go along with it such as inking and drawing people and designing characters and so forth. This would involve both myself lecturing, giving a demonstration, and having them practice these skills. Then we would move onto the larger project and in the end I would make sure to give detailed feedback to each individual. I make sure to give detailed notes of what students have created because they deserve in depth feedback. Often, there is a tendency for teachers to give students a grade and be done but the letter a student earns pales in comparison to good critique.
